How to Check Your Brand’s Visibility in AI Search

Your brand may appear in Google search results but remain absent when someone asks ChatGPT, Gemini, or another AI search tool for recommendations.

That creates a different challenge for businesses. Traditional SEO focuses on how pages perform in search results. AI search visibility looks at whether your brand or website appears in AI-generated answers, which sources are cited, and how accurately these systems describe your business.

You can start checking this without an expensive dashboard. Prepare a list of questions your customers are likely to ask, test them across relevant AI search tools, and record the results. Repeat the checks regularly because answers can change between tests.

For additional data, Bing Webmaster Tools offers an AI Performance report that tracks citations, cited pages, and grounding queries across Microsoft Copilot, AI-generated summaries in Bing, and selected partner experiences. It provides useful insights, but it does not measure visibility across every AI platform.

Test Customer Questions Across AI Search Platforms

Searching for your company name is a useful first step, but it only shows part of the picture. You also need to know whether potential customers can discover your business when they search for a service without knowing your brand.

Think about the questions people ask when researching a service provider or comparing their options.

Start with 20 to 30 questions covering your services, locations, products, and common customer problems.

Run the same questions across the AI tools relevant to your audience. Record the date and platform for each test, and repeat the process periodically to identify patterns rather than relying on a single answer.

A brand mention does not automatically mean your business is being represented accurately. An AI tool might mention your company but describe the wrong services, location, or area of expertise.

For each question, record:

  • Brand visibility: Does your brand appear, and where in the answer?
  • Accuracy: Does the description of your business match your actual services?
  • Competitor mentions: Which other businesses are recommended?
  • Source citations: Which websites or pages are cited in the answer?

You can also record whether the answer includes a direct link to your website. This helps distinguish a simple brand mention from a citation that may bring visitors to your site.

Use the same questions and recording method each time. This makes it easier to compare results over time, even though individual AI answers may vary.

Make Your Website Accessible to AI Search Engines

Your content needs to be accessible to the search and retrieval systems that may use it in AI-generated answers.

For example, OpenAI uses OAI-SearchBot to discover content for ChatGPT search. If your website blocks this crawler, your pages will not be shown as sources in ChatGPT search answers, although navigational links may still appear.

Start by reviewing your robots.txt file and checking whether important pages are crawlable. Also review indexing status, internal links, page accessibility, and content quality.

Allowing a crawler does not guarantee that your website will appear in an AI answer. The content still needs to be relevant to the question and selected by the system.

Use AI Search Reports to Measure Visibility

Manual testing helps you understand how AI tools describe your brand, but platform-specific reporting can provide additional evidence.

Bing Webmaster Tools' AI Performance report shows citation activity across supported AI experiences. It includes total citations, cited pages, and grounding queries, which are grouped phrases associated with content cited in AI-generated answers.

The report also offers features for exploring topics, query intent, citation share, and changes between reporting periods. These can help you understand which subjects are associated with your site's citations and how that activity changes over time.

However, grounding queries are not necessarily the exact questions users typed. Citation counts also do not represent website visits, clicks, or traditional search rankings.

Use these metrics alongside manual checks and your website analytics. They provide different perspectives on AI visibility rather than a complete picture of how your brand appears across all AI tools.

How to Improve Your Brand’s AI Search Visibility

Suppose a competitor appears in more of your test answers than your brand does. Instead of adding more keywords to every page, examine the sources and content associated with those answers.

Check:

  • Are the competing pages answering the customer's question more clearly?
  • Do they provide useful examples, comparisons, or supporting evidence?
  • Is your content missing important information about a service or location?
  • Are your business details consistent across your website and other relevant sources?

Use what you find to improve the pages that matter most to your business. Make service descriptions clearer, answer common customer questions, support important claims with reliable evidence, and keep information accurate and current.

Try to include broad industry questions, service-specific questions, and location-based questions in your audit. For example, compare a general question about choosing an SEO agency with one asking for SEO services in Kerala.

This helps you understand whether your brand appears for relevant customer needs, rather than only when someone searches for your company by name.

As one of the top SEO agency in Kerala, WebCastle Media helps businesses improve technical SEO, content, and website authority to identify and address gaps in organic and AI search visibility.

WebCastle Media also offers Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) services in Kerala to help businesses improve their chances of appearing in AI-generated answers.

AI search visibility is not something you can measure with a single question or test. Review a consistent set of prompts, check how AI tools describe your brand, examine cited sources, and monitor changes over time.

No single tool provides a complete view of your brand's visibility across all AI platforms. Combining manual testing, available citation reports, and website analytics gives you a more useful basis for deciding what to improve.

If potential customers use AI tools to research companies and compare service providers, checking whether your brand appears in those answers is a practical place to start.
